Kiki Health: The Organic and Natural Supplement Revolution
Kiki Health has become a go-to name in the world of organic and natural supplements. This innovative British brand offers nutritional supplements made from whole ingredients, or...
Spermidine is a natural polyamine (an organic molecule containing multiple amino groups) present in all living cells. It is an endogenous molecule produced by our body from ornithine, but also supplied by diet (wheat germ, soybeans, cheese, mushrooms). Its main mechanism: it induces autophagy — the cellular "self-cleaning" process that eliminates damaged proteins and dysfunctional organelles. This mechanism was the subject of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi.
It is extracted from Triticum aestivum (wheat germ), the richest natural source of spermidine (up to 243 nmol/g). This natural extraction is preferred to synthetic spermidine for reasons of bioavailability and matrix effect (other molecules in the wheat germ complex). Note: like wheatgrass, the extract is naturally gluten-free as spermidine is not a protein.
Yes. The SMAAT study (2018, JAMA) showed that a higher dietary intake of spermidine was associated with a 40% reduction in all-cause mortality in a cohort of 800 people over 20 years. A randomised controlled trial (Cell Research, 2018) showed that spermidine supplementation improved cognitive function in people with mild cognitive decline. Studies on cardiovascular health and cellular ageing are ongoing.
1–5 mg/day of additional spermidine (above baseline dietary intake which is approximately 10 mg/day in a Western diet). The SMAAT study observed benefits from approximately 10–11 mg/day total (diet + supplementation). At the doses found in Kiki Health capsules, effects on autophagy are measurable without reported side effects. Start with the minimum dose and adjust.
Yes. Promising combinations: Spermidine + NMN (NAD+ and autophagy act on complementary but distinct ageing pathways), + Resveratrol (sirtuin activation and autophagy), + Fisetin (another autophagy inducer and senolytic). The Sinclair-type longevity protocol often includes these molecules. SuperKure offers these key molecules to build your own longevity stack.
1–2 capsules in the morning on an empty stomach, or with a light meal. Some users prefer to take it in the evening. No specific interactions with food known. Consistency is essential — the effects of autophagy induction accumulate over weeks and months; do not expect immediate results.
Spermidine is an endogenous molecule with a very favourable safety profile at supplementation doses. No significant drug interactions identified in human clinical studies. Theoretical caution with strong autophagy inhibitors (hydroxychloroquine) and immunosuppressants. As always with new supplementation, inform your doctor if you take regular medications.
Theoretical cautions (though no documented cases): rapidly proliferating cancers (autophagy plays a complex role in oncology — seek medical advice), pregnancy and breastfeeding (insufficient safety data), coeliacs (wheat germ origin, though gluten-free). People under active cancer treatment should discuss spermidine supplementation with their oncologist beforehand.
