Kiki Health: The Organic and Natural Supplement Revolution
Kiki Health has become a go-to name in the world of organic and natural supplements. This innovative British brand offers nutritional supplements made from whole ingredients, or...
Kiki Health Organic Vitamin C is extracted from natural plant sources (typically acerola, rosehip, or amla), not chemically synthesised. Natural vitamin C comes with its native co-factors: bioflavonoids, rutin, hesperidin — compounds that improve its absorption and prolong its antioxidant activity. Synthetic ascorbic acid (99% of inexpensive tablets) is chemically identical but isolated from these co-factors. For optimal nutritional intake, the natural source with its co-factors is generally preferred.
Beyond the well-known immune role, vitamin C is: an indispensable co-factor for collagen synthesis (it hydroxylates prolines and lysines, a step necessary for the collagen triple helix), a regenerator of oxidised vitamin E, an amplifier of non-haem iron absorption (multiplies absorption by 2 to 4), and a protective agent of L-carnitine (co-factor of mitochondrial lipid metabolism). Its subclinical deficiency is far more common than declared scurvy.
Several major synergies: with Ionic Iron (absorption multiplied x2 to x4), with Collagen (indispensable co-factor for endogenous synthesis), with Spirulina and Chlorella (improves bioavailability of algae minerals), and with mushroom extracts (improves polyphenol absorption). Taking Kiki Health Organic Vitamin C with your other supplements is a smart strategy to maximise their efficacy.
The recommended daily intake is 80 mg/day (EU NRV). But studies on therapeutic effects use much higher doses: 500 to 1,000 mg/day for immunity and antioxidant effects, 1,000 to 3,000 mg/day (in divided doses) for sports recovery or acute infectious states. As vitamin C is water-soluble, excess is eliminated in the urine. Divided doses (2 to 3 times per day) are better tolerated than single mega-doses.
People with a history of oxalate kidney stones should be cautious with high doses of vitamin C (>1,000 mg/day) as part is converted to oxalate. For these people, stay around 200 to 500 mg/day and hydrate abundantly. Buffered forms (calcium or magnesium ascorbate) are generally better tolerated than pure ascorbic acid in cases of digestive sensitivity.
Vitamin C is generally compatible with the majority of medications. Notable exception: vitamin C reduces oral contraceptive absorption if taken simultaneously at high dose (space by 2 hours). It can also modify urinary blood sugar tests. At very high doses (>3g/day), consult in case of chemotherapy treatment (interactions on certain protocols). Standard vitamin C supplementation has no notable known interaction.
Acerola Powder is a raw dietary source of vitamin C — the acerola cherry contains 40 to 70 times more vitamin C than an orange. Kiki Health Organic Vitamin C is a standardised extract or combination of natural sources for a precise guaranteed content. Acerola also provides native anthocyanins and bioflavonoids in a complete food matrix. Both are natural sources but standardised Vitamin C offers a precise and guaranteed content per tablet.
