CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid extracted from hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). It acts on the endocannabinoid system (ECS) — a network of CB1 receptors (central nervous system) and CB2 receptors (immune system and periphery) present throughout the body. CBD does not directly activate these receptors like THC (no psychoactive effect) but modulates their sensitivity and influences numerous other molecular targets: serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, TRPV1 channels (pain and temperature), GABA and opioid receptors. This multimodality explains its reported spectrum of effects.
A 10 ml bottle of CBD 5% contains 500 mg of total CBD. Each drop of oil generally delivers 1.67 mg of CBD (30 drops = 1 ml = 50 mg). The recommended standard starting dose is 2 to 3 drops (3 to 5 mg of CBD) under the tongue, 1 to 2 times per day, to be gradually adjusted according to your needs and individual response. Sublingual intake (under the tongue for 60 seconds) maximises direct absorption into the bloodstream.
Yes. In France, the sale of hemp-derived CBD is legal as long as the THC content is below 0.3% (EU threshold) and the product is made from authorised hemp varieties. Kiki Health markets its CBD oils in compliance with European regulations. Check the Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the batch on the Kiki Health website to confirm the THC content is below 0.3%.
Full spectrum contains all the natural cannabinoids of hemp (CBD, CBG, CBC, traces of THC <0.3%), terpenes and flavonoids — the entourage effect (synergy of compounds) is maximised. Broad spectrum is identical but with THC removed — a solution for people subject to anti-doping tests or very sensitive to THC. Isolate is 99% pure CBD with no other compounds — lower efficacy according to the entourage effect theory. Check which type is contained in the Kiki Health 5% oil on the packaging.
Yes, and this is the most important warning. CBD inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP3A4 and CYP2D6), a hepatic enzymatic system that metabolises over 60% of medications. In practice: CBD can increase plasma concentrations of anticoagulants (warfarin — haemorrhagic risk), antiepileptics (levetiracetam, clobazam), immunosuppressants and many other medications. Always consult your doctor if you are on any medication.
Contraindications: pregnancy and breastfeeding (insufficient data, CBD not recommended as a precaution); people on medication without prior medical advice (CYP450 interactions — see above); children and adolescents without specialist medical prescription. CBD may cause drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea or blood pressure fluctuations in some people at the start — begin with low doses.
Sublingual route (under the tongue): effects are felt within 15 to 45 minutes and last 4 to 6 hours. This is the fastest and most bioavailable route for a CBD oil. Chronic effects (stress reduction, improved sleep, inflammation management) generally take 2 to 4 weeks of regular intake to fully establish. CBD does not produce a psychoactive effect — effects are subtle and progressive.
