Kiki Health: The Organic and Natural Supplement Revolution
Kiki Health has become a go-to name in the world of organic and natural supplements. This innovative British brand offers nutritional supplements made from whole ingredients, or...
Baobab (Adansonia digitata) is a thousand-year-old tree from sub-Saharan Africa whose dried fruit is naturally one of the richest foods in vitamin C in the plant kingdom — up to 300 mg of vitamin C per 100 g, six times more than an orange. Its pulp dries naturally in its shell without thermal processing, preserving all its nutrients intact: vitamin C, calcium (200 mg/100 g), potassium, magnesium, iron, and an exceptional content of soluble and insoluble fibres (50% fibre by dry weight). It is one of the most nutritionally complete fruits.
The particularity of baobab is its natural dehydration: the fruit dries in its shell during the African dry season, without human intervention. The powder is obtained by simply milling the dried pulp — no heat applied, no solvent. It is one of the rare superfoods that does not require freeze-drying or industrial drying to be turned into powder. Natural vitamin C and enzymes are therefore preserved in their native form.
Baobab powder contains approximately 50% fibre by dry weight — one of the most concentrated plant sources. These fibres are a blend of soluble fibres (pectins, which form a gel in the intestine and slow the absorption of glucose and cholesterol) and insoluble fibres (which regulate transit). Baobab powder is also a documented natural prebiotic: in vitro and human studies show it promotes the growth of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, the beneficial probiotic bacteria of the microbiome.
Some promising studies have been published. A pilot study from the University of Oxford (Coe 2013) showed that adding baobab powder to a sugary drink significantly reduced the postprandial blood sugar spike versus the control. The effect is attributed to soluble fibres (pectins) that slow gastric emptying and glucose absorption. The glycaemic index of baobab is estimated to be very low. These effects are of interest for people wishing to better manage their postprandial blood sugar.
Baobab powder has a slightly tangy, fruity taste — similar to lemon or green mango. It integrates easily into smoothies, yoghurts, porridge, sparkling drinks, fruity desserts or simply in a large glass of water. Common dose: 10 to 20 g (1 to 2 tablespoons) per day. Can be added to raw pastry preparations (energy balls). Stable at moderate heat for gentle cooking, but avoid high temperatures to preserve vitamin C.
Baobab is a wild African tree — its harvesting is naturally low in chemicals. Check whether the Kiki Health powder carries an organic certification (Soil Association UK, for example) and traceability of the African source. Supply chain sustainability matters: quality baobab powder supports rural African communities that harvest the fruit sustainably. Kiki Health is known for its traceability and responsible sourcing commitments.
Baobab powder is a natural food that is generally very well tolerated. Fibre-sensitive people may experience initial bloating — start with small doses. No major known drug interactions at dietary doses. Pregnancy: baobab is traditionally consumed in Africa during pregnancy, but consult your healthcare professional to validate the appropriate dose for your situation.
